Friends,
A happy Sunday to you all from seat 32F on Delta’s flight 2970. We are headed home to Dallas, and my wife and daughters are seated in the row right behind me.
Which also happens to be the last row of the plane.
We changed flights at something of the last minute to extend time with my family in Minnesota, which meant seats were limited on our new flight. And plainly, I made a mistake: I tried to book us two sets of three seats together hoping the middles would stay open to give us all a touch more room. But then I forgot it is still summer and invariably this flight was going to go out nearly full.
Not wanting to force those now assigned in the seats between us to play musical chairs, I spoke to the gate agent just before boarding. He gruffly offered us the last row of the plane together, which I agreed to. That man also probably should not be in a customer facing role at an airline, but that is another story.
In hindsight, I am split: musical chairs might have been the better call. But then and again, the last row is pleasant as a family with little kids given the sporadic cries for Little Mermaid and more snacks (please) disturb fewer people.
I still think I prefer sitting towards the front. But maybe I just care too much about where I sit on airplanes.
And so it goes in the infinite game of travel.
It has been a great past few weeks internally here at the blog. Thank you for bearing with my radio silence. Three updates that I am grateful to share:
Expect a weekly email: plan to hear from me once every seven days or so on a going forward basis with travel stories, news, and deals.
Podcast + Vlog drops are here to stay on Apple Podcasts and YouTube, respectively. I am really excited for what is ahead there.
I can book travel for you: thanks to your support, I’ve re-affiliated with a travel agency. Planning a trip? Hit reply — I’d love to share more about how I can help.
I have some exciting platform updates coming soon, too (notably — a special booking tool that will be for subscribers only). I’ll stay in touch.
My goal here is to build a community and platform that helps you go on more adventures and travel better — no matter where you are sitting on the plane.
Fly well.
