A Heavy Weekend in Texas

(Regular travel content will resume tomorrow👇🏼)

Friends,

It has been an unimaginably heavy weekend in Texas. As a father of two girls, I am devastated by the casualties from the flooding.

The stories of bravery and loss continue to overwhelm me—as they should. Thank you for allowing me to share my grief for the families enduring unthinkable loss here.

I could go on, because the reality is this: there is great darkness in the world. And yet—there is also so much light. The New York Times profiled a prayer service in Dallas earlier today — and the closing quote was a great comfort to me.

“There’s a saying people like to attribute to Christian theology, which is ‘God will never give you more than you can handle,’” he reflected. “It’s terrible theology. Actually the entire point of Christ is that we cannot handle the pain of this world. Jesus carries the pain that is too much for us to bear.”

Rev. Dr. Christopher D. Girata, Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church

I plan to resume mainline travel content tomorrow. Thank you for your patience—and for praying with me for those affected.

Fly well.

NEWS

Concerning, though perhaps a risk that is not as new as depicted.

Worth a read if you are a Southwest customer or shareholder. I will withhold further commentary for the time being.

This is not news, per se, but is a fantastic cultural commentary cultural commentary on so many levels.

DEALS

Great sign up offer on the updated Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Make sure you can make the annual fee back though in real dollars — otherwise it is not worth it.

Fantastic sale that ends soon — Briggs and Riley is (literally) the best luggage in the world. While expensive, the brand is understated and lasts.
